The InvestmentTeams F.A.Q.

Is there any way this website could be co-branded so that it will look as though its mine?

As a matter of fact, yes, this web site was designed specifically for that purpose. All the menu options and colors used for displaying the HTML tables and data entry forms are retrieved from an SQL database. With a few modifications to the supporting tables and some additional content, this web site could be used to promote your business within a matter of days. Please feel free to contact us for a free consultation to decide what would be the best solution to fit your specific needs.

How is this different from dozens of other sites that allow me to track my stock portfolio?

First of all, most web based portfolio tools simply track your open positions and show you the relative gain or loss against those positions. Once you leave a position your only option is to simply delete that stock from your portfolio. The InvestmentTeams application not only tracks your closed positions, it also reports monthly and annual return on investment. Even though your broker will often keep raw transaction history online, it almost always 'expires' after some period of time and they seldom provide meaningful reports on your investment returns. Finally, if you trade options you will find very few online portfolio tools that will help you track those types of orders.

Won't it take quite a bit of effort to keep the information current?

Lots of thought has gone into the interface design. Simple transactions, such as deposits, withdrawals, and interest debits or credits, can be entered with ease. Trade records are entered using an interface very similar to those that you are probably already using with your online broker.

What about partial fills, partial sales, commissions, and multiple accounts?

All of these more complex trading scenarios are easily handled by the system. For example, if you decide to sell only a portion of a given position that you hold, the system will automatically close out the number of shares that you have sold, then it goes on to create a new open position with the remainder of the lot. Partially filled orders at different prices would require that multiple trade records be entered, however, the commission may be left off for the portions that were necessary to complete the order. Commissions are automatically applied depending on how you've set up your broker information. The application is able to track multiple brokerage accounts as a single InvestmentTeam account, or, you may instead choose to track them separately by creating multiple accounts.

Can the system manage options trading?

Put or call option orders are initiated by a Buy To Open or a Sell To Open. If the option is not exercised, it should be closed with the corresponding Sell To Close or Buy To Close transaction. Options that expire will be documented in your transaction history as well. In several of the existing accounts, the software has been used to track the selling of put options.

Does the site offer anything beyond portfolio tracking?

The team concept and the ability to find more profitable trades through collaboration is the primary theme throughout the web site. InvestmentTeam members are able build their own teams. When a member enters a new trade or closes a position, the information is automatically e-mailed to each member of their team. Near term enhancements will focus on providing even more facilities to accept content from its members. There is also a stock trend query tool that has been developed to assist traders who want to perform database searches based on trends in various technical analysis indicators.

Will this site be moderated?

Yes. Diligent rejection of spammers will be one of the biggest benefits when you become a member at InvestmentTeams. The 'value' of the content will be judged solely by the InvestmentTeams staff. Members who consistently post misleading information or who engaging in the traditional 'pump-n-dump' schemes, or more recently, the ever popular 'the-sky-is-falling' short strategy will have their membership terminated without warning.

How much does it cost to become a member?

Initially, this service will be offered for free. If the site develops a significant number of members, some form of revenue generation will become necessary. If advertising can fulfill that role, without adversely affecting the performance of the website, then the site will probably remain free indefinitely. InvestmentTeams does retain the right to charge for the service sometime in the future, although it is likely that charter members would be given special pricing or possibly be granted the right to continue using the site for free.
